Welcome to the GPU Wiki, home to collaborative notes about the Global Processing Unit project.
Mission
The Global Processing Unit (GPU) is a collaborative world-wide effort to build the first giant Internet Supercomputer. This giant supercomputer will be used for open, free and peaceful research purposes only. It will be used as for distributed computing projects, for agent-driven applications and as a monitoring network with sensors. There are many examples of collaborative efforts which are succesful like the Wikipedia, Debian and its Linux kernel to build a free operating system, One Laptop Per Child which aims to donate a laptop to each child in developing countries. GPU would like to convey efforts from the Open Source Community to build the first giant supercomputer, built, supported, documented and run by volunteers.
About the Global Processing Unit
The FAQ / Latest news / In the News
GPU is currently based on a network of modified gnutella clients (the GPU clients, you can download one here) which are connected in a decentral way, and a central server (the file distributor). This architecture will change in the future, in particular we think of having several servers and an hybrid architecture as backbone.
To support the project, we have an official website, a development page, and this wiki as home to collaborative notes about the GPU project and its community. The first two websites are kindly hosted by Sourceforge.net, another big effort to be a hosting platform for more than 100 000 Open Source projects.
We also run a public FTP server, an autoupdate service, a CVS repository and a deltasql server.

If you want to help us, there are several ways to do it. One is to open an account on this wiki and to help us improving it by adding your own content. Right now, there just a few pages. You might find useful content on the official website, or in the gpu_solar_source.zip package you download, in the docs subdirectory.
Thanks for helping us, have fun!
